Playa del Sol

Once we moved to the Playa del Sol for the second half of the event, both the weather and the fishing improved dramatically!

Fishing on 24 Cruisers and 1 Super Panga, 27 anglers and 9 guests took part, and the total take was everything on the chart except for the 3 Striped Marlin taken at Rancho Leonero.

Mike Totey,
of Albany, Oregon
took 1/2 of the
Top Non-Bill
honors with this
103 lb Mako Shark,
which he caught on
the first day of fishing.


Brad Ecklund, of Hillsboro, Oregon, took the other half of the Top Non Bill honors with a 34 lb Dorado on Day 2.

Tom Reese displays his 47 lb Dorado


Tom Reese, of Los Barillas, Baja, caught the largest Dorado, which weighed in at 47 lbs, on Day 1 of the two day event.

Top Team

Top Team money went to Mike Totey and frequent angler Roland Martines, of Alta Loma, California. Between them, Mike and Roland caught 4 Marlin, 2 Dorado, 11 Tuna, and the big Mako Shark.


*** 2nd Place Team ***
2nd Place Team

Second Place went to Lynn and Gay Dawn Mikesell, and Blake and Jessica Johnson, all from Mona, Utah.
They were the First Day leaders, catching 14 tuna, the largest of which weighed 37 lbs.
*** 3rd Place Team ***

3rd Place Team
Larry Dullinger, of Denver, Colorado, and teammates Rick and Karen Vineyard,
of Brunswick, Georgia, captured 3rd place.


*** Top Angler ***
Mike Totey captured Top Angler honors, personally catching 2 Marlin, 6 Tuna, 1 Dorado, and the big Mako.
The 2nd Place Angler Trophy went to Roland Martines.

3rd Place Angler Karen Vineyard
Karen Vineyard, of Brunswick, Georgia, won the 3rd Place Angler honors.


*** Top Rookie ***
Top Rooke

Nine rookies fished for their first bill fish, and Lynn Mikesell, of Mona, Utah, won Top Rookies honors.
Lynn caught his first Marlin and 3 Tuna.		Jeff Warilla


Jeff Warilla, of Vancouver, Washington caught the other Mako Shark on this trip. This one weighed in at 29 lbs.
